Minnesota Digital Newspaper Hub

Check out the new resource from the Minnesota Historical Society. Through legacy funds many older newspapers from Minnesota - including Minneapolis, St. Paul, Cannon Falls, Red Wing and Northfield and Dundas - have been digitized.  The Northfield News has been digitized from 1879 to 1922.  All of the newspapers are fully searchable.  The full collection can be searched by title of newspaper, county, city or town or date.   This is a great resource for historians and genealogists.

Women's History Month

"How Important it is for us to recognize and celebrate our heroes and she-roes!"

Maya Angelou, African American Poet

Did you ever wonder who the first female self-made millionaire was and what she did to get there? Or what"Iron jawed Angels" is really about?  March is Women's History Month and the theme for 2014 is "Character, Courage and Commitment".  All month long the Northfield Public Library will honor women and their contribution to history on a national, local and worldly level.  Check out informative and inspiring websites like:

The Library of Congress   womenshistorymonth.gov

National Women's History Museum    nwhm.org

National Women's History Project    nwhp.org

Or simple stop into the library and check out the Women's History display in the reference area.  Where better to find the answer to these questions, be inspired, and learn more about the courageous women who were committed to carving a path for the future, than in your local library?
