A Beginner's Guide to Home Brewing


Michael Cote, President of the Minnesota Home Brewers Association, will speak at the Northfield Public Library on Saturday, February 8, from 1-3 PM on home brewing.   Mr. Cote works at Midwest Brewing and teaches classes on home brewing. 

According to the American Homebrewers Association home brewing is gaining in popularity each year.  In 2012 more than 1 million home brewers brewed about 2 million barrels of beer.  If you are a complete beginner or just have questions on your first batch this program is for you.  The program will be held in the meeting room and is free and open to all.  For more information or to make disability arrangements, please call the library at 507-645-6606.

Did you get an eReader for Christmas? If so, you should know about our free downloadable ebooks! Come to the Northfield Public Library to get help downloading library ebooks to your eReader.   These are walk-in sessions so no appointment is necessary. Bring your device and your library card. If you have a Nook bring your lap top computer.

A Love Affair with Birds

Sue Leaf, author of "A Love Affair with Birds: the Life of Thomas Sadler Roberts", will give a talk and sign copies of her book in the meeting room of the Northfield Public Library on Tuesday, February 4 at 7:00 PM.  The book is the first full biography of Roberts, the father of Minnesota ornithology.  Roberts was a physician, professor of Ornithology at the University of Minnesota and founder of the Bell Museum of Natural History.  Roberts was a mentor and friend to local physician and birding enthusiast Dr. George Rysgaard.  Leaf, an avid birding enthusiast herself, will elaborate on the Northfield connection in her talk.  The book was listed as one of the top 10 books for 2013 in the Dec. 27, 2013 edition of the St. Paul Pioneer Press.

Hot Reads for Cold Nights

Hot Reads for Cold Nights (a winter reading program for adults) begins Monday January 6, 2014 when the HIGH in Northfield, Minnesota will be 19 below zero!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If you are brave enough to venture out, come on in and sign up. The program runs between Jan. 6 and Feb. 28. Fill out a slip for each book you read or listen to. Three names will be drawn each week for $5 gift certificates for Northfield businesses.
